Everything You Need to Know about Relocating from Germany to Dubai in 2023

Germany and Dubai have strong economic ties, especially in trade and investment. For German businesses, Dubai serves as a gateway to the Middle East and North Africa region. Germany is one of the largest investors in Dubai and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Due to the longstanding friendship between the UAE and Germany, it is no surprise that increasing numbers of Germans are relocating to the UAE.

Dubai has been investing heavily in renewable energy and water desalination, attracting German companies specializing in these areas. The two countries also work together in various other industries, such as construction, transportation, and tourism.

Regarding cultural exchanges, Dubai and Germany have a vibrant community of expatriates, with many Germans residing in the UAE. German schools and cultural centers in Dubai offer language classes and cultural events, promoting the language and culture of Germany.

The two countries have a strong diplomatic relationship, with both governments engaging in regular meetings and discussions. The UAE has been a dependable partner for Germany in the region, and both nations have collaborated to address regional and global issues.

Few of the Many Benefits of Relocating to Dubai and the UAE

Expats from all around the world are flocking to Dubai right now. About 80% of Dubai’s population consists of foreigners. Because of its expanding economy, culture, and way of life, it is known as “The City of Gold.” In light of this, it’s no surprise that many Germans are making the journey to the United Arab Emirates to settle in the rapidly expanding metropolis of Dubai.

If you’re debating whether or not to make a move, consider all the advantages this city offers.

1. Career Opportunities

Earning money is only one perk of working in the United Arab Emirates. It can also be a terrific opportunity to advance your career, opening the door to greater responsibilities and new opportunities.

Both Abu Dhabi and Dubai, both large cities, have strong corporate economies and are constantly looking for new workers who can communicate effectively in English to help advance their creativity and technology. In particular, Dubai is rapidly becoming a significant financial hub on a worldwide scale, and it is already the dominant epicenter of business and trade in the whole Middle East.

There are career opportunities for you in the UAE, regardless of your field or industry (it’s not all oil!). Consult with an international recruitment agency to determine your next move.

2. Tax-free Salaries

Dubai does not have any personal income tax, which means expatriates receive their entire salary without any deductions, making it a highly sought-after location for financial reasons. This, along with the absence of tax on food, drink, and other items, may make the Emirates a very affordable place to live—if you can resist splurging on all the high-end luxury brands that the city is full of, that is.

You may save a lot of money and avoid paying taxes by cutting costs everywhere you can. Working for a few years in the Middle East can help secure your financial future and ensure a secure retirement.

3. High Standard of Living

Living conditions in Dubai are unique and varied. The standard of living and range of services is improving at an unprecedented rate among the world’s growing economies. When you move to Dubai, you’ll have access to world-class amenities and high-quality goods that will allow you to live your life your way. In Dubai, you can choose from a wide variety of lifestyles while taking advantage of the city’s lively and engaging culture.

4. Weather

Dubai is a great place to visit if you’re looking to soak up some rays, with an average of 342 sunny days yearly. From September through May, when temperatures are more moderate, inhabitants of Dubai may make the most of the city’s many parks, beaches, and other outdoor attractions. Temperatures sometimes go above 40 degrees Celsius during the summer, so living there and traveling there might be challenging. However, you’ll discover that every building in Dubai has efficient air conditioning. There are lots to do indoors and out, so whether you love the heat or prefer to hibernate, you can have a good time any time of year.

5. Cultural Diversity

You won’t just mingle with local Germans but folks from all around the globe. People from all around the world call the city they call home. As a result, you might broaden your horizons and get an appreciation for other people’s ways of life.

This is reflected in the shops, restaurants, and malls you’ll encounter. In Dubai’s teeming markets, you can try dishes from around the world and browse the latest fashions from the world’s top designers.

In addition, if you’re looking to expand your professional circle, Dubai is the location to do it. Having people from all over the world living in the same place makes it easy to meet people with similar interests and gain new perspectives.

6. Safe and Secure

According to a 2023 study, Dubai is among the safest major cities in the world. The federal government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has instituted strict legal guidelines, a well-developed judicial system, and substantial investments in cutting-edge security infrastructure to ensure the public’s safety.

In 2023, the respectable Dubai police force and the government’s tolerance policies have made Dubai’s multicultural society hospitable for the emirate’s more than two hundred nationalities. Because of the city’s low crime rate and generally tranquil atmosphere, females, children, and the elderly are free to roam the streets at any hour of the day or night without fear of harassment or assault.

7. Adventure and Excitement

There is no shortage of exciting and adventurous things to do in Dubai. So many people from all over the world, including Germany, have made the United Arab Emirates their home, so you’ll have no trouble finding friends and acquaintances to help you settle in. You can immediately find a support system and meet new acquaintances among the expat community thanks to the abundance of organizations catering to their needs.

The city of Dubai also offers a wide variety of tourist attractions, including theme parks, water parks, and desert safaris. The Dubai Museum and the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding are must-sees in the city. Bars and clubs in Dubai typically stay open until the wee hours of the morning so that visitors may enjoy the city’s lively nightlife until the wee hours of the morning.

Relocation to Dubai: What You Need to Know?

Dubai is a popular destination for adventure, luxury, and opportunities. Relocating to a new country will affect your life in numerous ways. You need to know a few things before you can begin the preparation necessary for your move from Germany to Dubai.

1. Visa Requirements

Dubai has stringent visa requirements, and the application procedure might be drawn out. Before moving, it is best to investigate the various visa alternatives and criteria.

Planning your transfer to Dubai from Germany necessitates understanding the many visa options available to you. To work in Dubai, you must first obtain a work visa. In addition to a medical exam, health insurance, and a passport valid for at least six months beyond the date of arrival, your firm can provide this.

However, a tourist visa would suffice if your travel is strictly for tourism or business. With this visa, travelers can stay in the United Arab Emirates for up to 30 days and engage in any lawful activity, including seeking or accepting gainful employment, during that time.

2. Cost of Living

Dubai is known for its luxurious lifestyle, but it also has a high cost of living. Make sure you clearly understand the expenses you will incur and have a budget in place.

Compared to Germany, living expenses in Dubai are considerably more expensive. However, although you may be able to find cheap lodging, the costs of other necessities, such as groceries, utilities, and transportation, will add up quickly.

Before you move, it is vital to conduct an extensive study and evaluate your financial situation to guarantee that these expenses will not strain your budget.

3. Climate

In the past, Dubai was nothing more than a barren desert, but now it is one of the most glamorous metropolises in the world. However, the desert climate is still very much present, and you can expect temperatures of up to 50 degrees Celsius in the middle of summer. Since global warming is an absolute reality, this will only worsen in the years to come.

During the warmest months of the year, it is strongly recommended to remain indoors. In Dubai, air conditioners are ubiquitous and can be found practically anywhere (it becomes impossible to survive without them). Extreme heat can be uncomfortable, especially for visitors from colder areas.

4. Traffic Can Be Hectic

The population of Dubai has surged over the past couple of decades, and this trend shows no signs of slowing. In addition, most individuals would instead use their cars to get around than take public transportation, which means that traffic can get very heavy, particularly around rush hour.

Despite having a well-developed public transit system, many residents still keep multiple cars at home.

5. Choosing the Right Jurisdiction is Crucial

Make sure you know your way through Dubai’s many economic districts to establish a business there. The three primary business structures in Dubai are the free zone, the mainland, and the offshore. It is because each Jurisdiction has its own set of rules and regulations that must be followed.

Foreign business owners choose free zones because of the fewer regulations and more significant incentives they provide. But the mainland, with its stricter regulations but more straightforward access to the domestic market, has its advantages.

6. It is advisable to Obey the Rules

You must always follow the laws of the country and the city to avoid difficulty. It may seem odd that public demonstrations of affection are prohibited. Still, these laws are a part of daily life in Dubai, and violating them can result in severe consequences, including imprisonment and deportation. Don’t get in trouble with the authorities by doing things like drinking and driving, never buying counterfeit items, and not snapping pictures of random people.

7. Ramadan and Islamic Holidays

In Dubai, holidays are centered on Islamic customs. Throughout the Islamic world, working hours are cut down to six hours a day during Ramadan, and many people choose to take time off during this holy month.

During Ramadan, there is a new set of restrictions that must be learned by everyone who is not previously familiar with them. During Ramadan, eating and drinking in public during daylight hours is strictly prohibited and can result in severe punishment.

In addition, you’ll need to keep an eye out for the day of Ramadan itself, which varies from year to year.

How to Setup a German Business in Dubai, UAE

Dubai is a business-friendly destination and has a favorable tax environment. The city is strategically located and has excellent infrastructure, making it an ideal location for German businesses looking to expand into the Middle East. Here’s a step-by-step guide to setting up a German business in Dubai.

1. Choose a Business Structure

The first step in setting up a German business in Dubai is to choose a business structure that suits your business needs. Dubai’s most common business structures are sole proprietorship, limited liability company (LLC), free zone company, and a branch office.

2. Get Your Documents in Order

Prepare the necessary documentation. You will need to provide a financial statement, copies of your passport and other identifying documents, and evidence that you have the resources to sustain a business in Dubai.

Below is an overview of the fundamental paperwork you’ll need to prepare when relocating from Germany to Dubai:

  • Copies of all directors’ and shareholders’ passports
  • Proof of address
  • At least three months’ bank statement
  • Academic certificates (if applicable)
  • Certificate of capital stock deposit (if required)
  • A lease or co-working contract that has been signed (if starting a mainland company)

3. Obtain a Trade License

The next step is to obtain a trade license from the Department of Economic Development (DED) in Dubai. This license will allow you to operate your business in Dubai legally. You can apply for a trade license online or in person at the DED.

4. Register with the Chamber of Commerce

After obtaining a trade license, you must register with the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry. This registration will allow you to access various business services and benefits the Chamber of Commerce provides.

5. Open a Bank Account

Next, you will need to open a local bank account in Dubai. This will allow you to receive and make payments in local currency. Most banks in Dubai require a trade license, passport, and proof of residency to open a bank account.

6. Rent a Commercial Space

Once you have obtained a trade license and registered with the Chamber of Commerce, you must rent a commercial space in Dubai. This could be a physical office, a warehouse, or a retail outlet.

7. Obtain Necessary Permits and Approvals

Depending on the type of business you are operating, you may need to obtain additional permits and approvals from various government agencies in Dubai. For example, if you are operating a food and beverage business, you must obtain a food safety certificate from the Dubai Municipality.

8. Apply For a Visa

Once your business license is approved, you can apply for a visa. Visas vary per zone, so check the requirements before submitting your application. You can also try for the Golden Visa if you want a self-sponsored visa.
